Angel Mavroto

Stefan Ivanov Mavrodiev, known as Mavroto, is a Bulgarian theater and film actor and director.
Biography
He was born on December 29, 1943, in Varna. His father was a teacher and actor at the Varna Theater, while his mother sang at the Varna Opera.
At the age of seven, he enrolled in the theater school at the Pioneer House in Varna. He graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Krastyo Sarafov” under the tutelage of Methodi Andonov in 1967.
Over the following years, he played numerous roles, first at the Drama Theater “N. O. Masalitinov” in Plovdiv (1967 – 1972), then at the stages of the Satirical Theater “Aleko Konstantinov” (1969 – 1972), National Youth Theatre (1972 – 1993), National Theatre “Ivan Vazov” and the Sfumato troupe (1993-). He performed in productions by Chekhov, Brecht, Shakespeare, and Stefan Tsanev.
The Wall of Fame in front of Theater 199 features a panel with imprints, a message, and a caricature of Stefan Mavrodiev. On the stage of Theater 199, he appeared in productions such as “June, the Beginning of Summer” by Julius Edlis, “The Policemen” by Slawomir Mrozek, “The Women of D.” by Edward Radzinsky, and “Chinachita” by Thierry Debrou. His imprints can be seen on the Wall of Fame in front of the theater.
One of his most popular productions is “Yesterday”.
He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Actors (1981) and the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers.
He has played over 50 roles in cinema. Some of the most famous films he participated in include “24 Hours of Rain”, “Measure for Measure”, “Zone V-2”, “Friday Night”, “The Cricket in the Ear”, “Birds and Beasts”, and others.

“Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Award for Male Role” for the role of (Teacher Stancho Palazov) in the film “24 Hours of Rain” and for (Genadi Iliev and Adam) in the film “Encounter of Forces” (1983).
“Award for Supporting Role” for (Purvan Kotsev – “Microbe”) in the film “Friday Night” (Karlovo, 1987).
“Award for Male Role” for the role of (Zheko) in the production “Magic ’82” (1988).
Recipient of the “Ikar” Award from the Union of Bulgarian Artists “for outstanding creative contribution”, 2014.
